Celebrity dinner (Sat 07 May)
The Club staged their latest celebrity dinner on Friday with the manager, directors, supporters and guests thoroughly entertained by the former Charlton Athletic, Luton Town, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth and Manchester City player, Paul Walsh.
Ex. England international, Walsh, sat at the top table alongside Reds’ boss, Darren Edmondson, excellent comedian, Nicky Newsome, compare Howard Nicholson and director, Jos Taylor.
Paul Walsh with Reds' manager Darren Edmondson.
Howard opened proceedings in his own special way before the well presented meal was served. Paul then told the attentive audience of his career which started at Charlton Athletic and has taken him to Sky Sports as a pundit. Nicky, competing with a spectacular thunder and lightning storm outside, told some very funny stories and his brand of comedy went down a treat.
A good evening was enjoyed by all.
Unsung heroes awarded (Sun 01 May)
Aaran Taylor completed an unusual hat-trick in the Player of the Year awards and was joined on the rostrum by double winner Anthony Wright and Adam Main.
Ever-present Aaran capped a marvellous first season as Reds’ number one ‘keeper by being voted Most Improved Player, Players’ Player of the Year and National Supporters’ Player of the Year.
Anthony Wright’s ever-growing popularity was reflected in his two awards as he picked up the Supporters’ Player of the Year and Regular Away Supporters’ Player of the Year accolades.
Adam Main, the Under 18’s Player of the Year last season, maintained his progress by being voted Young Player of the Year.
The presentations were made in the Social Club after the Hinckley United game.

New Zealand bound (Fri 22 Apr)
Stephen Hindmarch, (pictured left), and Conor Tinnion, (pictured right), fly out to New Zealand on Monday as they prepare for the next chapter of their football education.
Both are linking up with one of the country’s oldest clubs, Western Suburbs, and are due to spend four months there.
Conor has featured in most of our games this season whilst Stephen has gained some valuable pitch time in recent weeks after a lengthy spell on the sidelines through illness.
We wish them both well during their time with the Wellington club.
McLuckie to undergo op (Fri 01 Apr)
Reds' midfielder Phil McLuckie is to undergo emergency surgery on his depressed cheekbone this Monday morning at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
Phil had an appointment with the surgeon yesterday for the pre-ops and discussed the options the surgeon was considering. These include pulling the cheekbone back into place and also may involve fitting of a plate.
Currently Phil is unable to chew, hence his mother Angela is looking forward to not having to puree all his food.
'B' Grade retained (Fri 01 Apr)
FA officials visited Borough Park on Thursday afternoon to conduct the biannual ground inspection.
Thankfully, we retained our B grading – the minimum requirement for Conference North membership – on the proviso that new toilets are installed by the 1st August.
Toilet facilities was one aspect of the criteria we didn’t comply with but work has been hampered by the preparation work for the new bridge. There is some uncertainty about the Derwent End of the ground at the moment and we will lose nearly two metres of land along the approach road to the main entrance.
Squad boost (Fri 01 Apr)
Reds’ boss Darren Edmondson has boosted his wafer thin squad with a quintet of signings with the ‘new recruits’ all registered before the 5pm deadline on Thursday.
Four players from the reserve team have registered as Conference players along with Carlisle United teenager, Steven Swinglehurst, who has come on Work Experience.
Ben Jackson (23), John Bentley (23), Steven Rudd (20), Mark Sloan (18) and Steven Swinglehurst (18) will boost a squad that has lost Phil McLuckie through injury while loanee Nick Rogan is only available for the next fortnight before his return to Fleetwood Town.
Ben has been a regular member for Dave Rodgie’s second string this term and has also played in the Northern League for Penrith. Former Reserve team skipper, Steven Rudd, has been playing for Aspatria following his two seasons with Gretna and recently played for us in the Lancashire League. John Bentley, from Shap, has been playing for the reserves and has also been associated with Penrith. Recently released by Carlisle United, Maryport teenager, Mark Sloan, was originally a front man but more recently has been operating in midfield. Steven Swinglehurst is off to Wembley with Carlisle United this week-end but will link-up with us on their return.
Reds have just seven games left but hope to complete their sixth consecutive season in Conference North with a top half finish – they are currently 10th – but upcoming opponents appear to be hitting a bit of form.
Darren has only been able to name four substitutes in two of the recent games.
