West Cumbria Youth League
Sun 11 October 2008

Workington  5 - 1  Winscales

Workington were made to fight for the first 30 minutes against a promising Winscale team with Winscales taking the lead after 10 minutes when Simon Bragg headed into his own net from a Zac Starkie cross.

Workington were very slow out of the blocks but Jordan Lee was getting a lot of joy on the right wing and putting several balls into the Winscales box which were not capitalised on by the Workington strikers.

After 30 minutes Stefan Scott got on the end of another Jordan Lee cross and made it one apiece while the
exact same scenario 5 minutes later and Workington went in at half time  2-1 up after playing pretty miserably but a lot more street wise than their opponents in the first half.

This game was for most of the Workington palyers their third game in five days and fourth game in 8 days due to League, FA Youth Cup and FA County Cup duties.

In the second half Winscales were resorting to playing a long ball game but Dion Barnes and Dan McDermott, at the heart of Workingtons defence, dealt with the the long balls superbly.

Dean Fox, the Winscales striker, had a very good game even though he never really had a sniff at goal.

Workington were very comfortable in the second half and with 20 minutes remaining Jordan Lee swapped with Stefan Scott moved into midfield from out wide.  The impact was immediate and Jordan Lee buried one in the bottom corner, then scored two more curling both into the far corner of the net past the outstretched Winscale keeper Craig Hurst  to complete his hat trick within 20 minutes.

The final score of 5-1 to Workington in a good competitive game was supplemented by the referee not having to issue any cards with not one bad tackle made by either side throughout the game.

The Winscales man of the match was Rob Carr closely followed by Dean Fox, while Workington's man of the match was Jordan Lee closely followed by Dion Barnes and Dan McDermott.
