Recap
Reds returned to winning ways in their JPL programme after overcoming good opposition from Merseyside.
In fact, it was the visitors who started the game on the front foot and they dominating much of the opening half hour. They missed several good chances and Joe Rumney pulled off a couple of important saves to keep Reds in the game.
Brad Keenan’s opening goal was against the run of play, and when Joe Carney netted a second soon after the balance swung in Reds’ favour.
The game became a bit feisty at times, a bit of silliness from both teams, but there was plenty of good football too.
AFC reduced the arrears mid-way through the second half following a free-kick but, within five minutes, Reds had restored their two-goal advantage.
Owen Johnston had his spot-kick saved, and the follow-up too, but from the subsequent corner Sam Christian forced home what effectively was the decider from close range.
Reds still top the division but they could be overtaken by three teams – AR Elite, Foley Meir and Warrington Rylands who have games in hand.
