INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: Thank-you ladies
There was another excellent attendance at Borough Park on Saturday and, on International Women’s Day, a large percentage of those enjoying the welcome, warm sunshine were girls and ladies.
Many took advantage of the ‘March to Borough Park’ initiative to see the Reds secure an important victory over Blyth Spartans, a game watched by a crowd topping the 900 mark.
For some, it was business as usual with several of our volunteers going about their normal match-day duties as they have throughout the season.
On duty with the first team squad were physiotherapist, Caitlin Gribbon, and kit manager, Andrea Windle along with the players’ liaison officer, Maddie Whitehouse.
The catering side of the operation was busy with Hilary and Katie Norman, Sue Jones and Jean Braithwaite looking after the guests in the sponsors lounge whilst Sonia Thompson and Glenda Collins were serving refreshing drinks to supporters inside and out.
In the food outlets, Jane Wright, Milly Lewthwaite and Pauline Hurst were busy throughout the afternoon selling hot and cold drinks and snacks.
Lynne Gauntlett was in the main office dealing with match-day admission and Celia Tibble was the first point of contact in her booth selling golden goal and half time draw tickets.
And it was good to see young girls and ladies on the terraces, particularly Janice Messenger who was keen to visit Borough Park after the sad, recent passing of her husband, former Reds’ skipper, Gary.

Vice-chairman, Richard Lewthwaite, was delighted with the spectator response and said,
“To get over 2,000 through the turnstiles over the last two games has far exceeded our expectations and we are delighted with the turnout in both matches.
“The ‘March to Borough Park’ initiative has been a huge success so far and there are still two more home games this month. We’d like to thank every fan for backing the club and I’m sure the lads appreciate and have benefitted from the fantastic support.”
- The average home attendance this season is a commendable 752
