Job Opportunity: First Team Manager – Workington AFC

Location: Workington, Cumbria with training sessions located in Penrith

Contract Type: Part-time (Competitive salary based on experience)

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated First Team Manager to lead Workington AFC through the remainder of the current season and beyond. The successful candidate will be responsible for all footballing matters, from player recruitment and squad management to match preparation and performance.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and develop the first-team squad to deliver strong performances on the pitch.

  • Work within an agreed budget to maximise value and sustainability.

  • Utilise a wide range of proven footballing contacts to identify and attract quality and experienced players who fit the club’s ethos and ambitions.

  • Implement effective training programmes, tactics and player development plans.

  • Foster a positive, professional and stable culture within the squad and wider club environment.

  • Collaborate with the Board and football operations staff to achieve both short and longer term objectives.

  • Deliver the results that ensure Workington AFC maintains its Step 3 status this season.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrable managerial or coaching experience at semi-professional (Step 4 and above) or professional level.

  • Strong network of player and club contacts within the non-league or lower professional football system.

  • Proven track record of effective recruitment within financial constraints.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and motivational skills.

  • Commitment to the club’s values, its supporters, and the local community.

  

Desirable

  •  UEFA B Licence (or higher).

  •  Experience managing in similar leagues (Step 3 and above)

  •  Understanding of player development pathways and youth integration.
