MATCH PREVIEW: Tricky journey, tricky match

Reds make the cross-country, coast-to-coast journey to the east coast for Saturday’s NPL Premier Division fixture, a very important game for both clubs.

The 140-mile journey is an awkward one, logistically, and not just a case of travelling from west to east, with staff members and players travelling in various directions to meet the team coach.

Back in September, Reds obtained a 3-1 win in the Borough Park encounter thanks to milestone goals from David Norris and Dave Symington plus one from top scorer, Steven Rigg.  Nathan Thomas netted the Whitby reply.

That was the seventeenth match in the series and Workington have won seven of those so far, Whitby successful on five occasions and the other five meetings resulting in a draw.

Both have similar league records to date with Town two points better off than Reds having played the same number of matches.

They have had a change of manager since the last meeting with Craig Liddle and Jason Kennedy appointed manager and assistant, respectively, succeeding Nathan Haslam’s team.

After the disappointing mid-week performance in the Cumberland Cup, Mark Fell will recall the senior players who were rested at Carlisle City and will be looking to resume where they left off against Matlock Town.

Friday’s storm may have some impact on the fixture but we will update supporters as and when we have any travel updates etc.

Venue: The Towbar Express Stadium, Upgang Lane, Whitby (YO21 3HZ)

Kick-off: 3pm

Admission: Adult – £12, Concession – £8, U18s – £3
