PRESENTATION EVENING: Rigg’s Gig
It has been a wonderful personal campaign for Workington centre forward, Steven Rigg, and his best ever season with the Reds was rewarded at the Presentation Evening, held at Borough Park after the Ashton United game, when he swept the board.
He collected five of the seven awards made on the night included the coveted double of Players’ Player of the Year and Supporters’ Player of the Year.
Rigg, who originally played for the club on loan in 2018, has been a consistent performer for the past four seasons but raised the bar this term making forty-one appearances and topping the scorers’ chart with 21 goals.
His haul of trophies included the Golden Boot for the leading scorer’s award, the RISC Player of the Year, Pro-Sports Media Award, Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year.
Tom Stephenson celebrated his first season with the club by lifting the Young Player of the Year award after scoring three goals in his thirty-five appearances.
Supporters also voted for the Goal of the Season and, from an impressive short list of twelve, Ruben Grewal’s impressive finish in the home match against Matlock Town polled 28% of the votes to emerge a clear winner after fighting off the challenge of Kai Nugent’s goal in the same match and Kaedyn Kamara’s cracking strike at Prescot Cables.
