MATCH PREVIEW: The longest day

After enjoying home comforts over the last three weekends, Reds face a long day on the country’s motorway network on Saturday as they travel for the Premier Division encounter at Basford United (3pm).

It will involve a round trip of over 400 miles for the local based players and even longer for the two lads, Efe Ambrose and Bruce Strachan, based in Scotland.

And with Basford fighting for their Premier Division status, it is sure to be a tough afternoon in Nottingham.

Basford are currently 20th in the division with 32 points obtained from nine wins and five draws.  Their home record (21 points) is quite decent for a bottom four team but they are still eight points from safety with only half a dozen fixtures remaining after the weekend.

But a wounded animal is a dangerous one and Basford’s home record (six wins and three draws) is still better than Reds’ away return (four wins, two draws).

Back in November, Reds emerged 2-0 winners in a Tuesday night match but that was after Josh Galloway made a spectacular goal line clearance, denying Tyler Dacres a certain goal, when it was goalless.  After surviving that scare, we got the goals (Jamie Allen and Steven Rigg) to secure the points.

This will be just the sixth meeting between the clubs with Basford inflicting a NPL double upon us during the 18-19 campaign and Reds winning home and away last season.
