NEW SIGNING: Reds sign Charlie Barnes
Workington AFC are delighted to announce the signing of defender Charlie Barnes from Annan Athletic.
The former Carlisle youngster had a season under Reds boss Mark Fell at Lancaster City before moving north of the border in the summer. The versatile and athletic 23 year old can play comfortably at centre half or right back and will be a welcome addition to the Reds defence.
Reds boss Mark Fell, “we nearly got Charlie in the summer, he actually played in one of our preseason games, but he chose to go back to Scotland where he’d been at Annan previously. This time it didn’t work out for him and we know we’re getting a really good player who has good NPL experience. Charlie needs to get back playing and enjoying his football, I know he’ll be a player that the supporters will enjoy watching, he’s great on the ball, quick and defends well 1v1.”

Barnes added, “I’m really happy to be here and to get started with the lads. Hopefully I can help in achieving the Gaffer’s goals for this season and I’m definitely looking forward to, and ready for the challenge.”
Charlie will be available for selection in tomorrow’s home tie as Matlock Town make the trip to Borough Park.
